Neighborhood Tutoring Program - Stories of Success!
In June, 2003, Neighborhood Tutoring student Erenson Guzman addressed the ladies of the Junior League of Washington to thank them for their support of tutoring at For Love of Children. Here is the text of his remarks: “Good evening, My name is Erenson Guzman and I am proud to represent the For
Love of Children (FLOC) program. I have written a poem to explain
what FLOC means to me:
I’ve learned to become a young man
with hope and dignity so that I can control my destiny. God bless this program with all his heart and when I am not around FLOC, I feel apart. I look forward to every Tuesday when I meet with my tutor Roland. We go over Math and he always shows me the path. And sometimes, he would ask me “am I going to fast” and I say no. And he says, I’m glad. I would like to thank Anne for the love she has shown me. Also, I would like to thank you for my beautiful tutor and that is from me to you. FLOC is a wonderful program to be everyday and I will try to get there with no delay. Every single day, I come and I see the light so bright and it is the love I have for this program. I would like to tell every body FLOC deserves anything in this world and I would never trade this program for 20 pieces of gold. "In school for Math, I was getting F’s and even in Science but since I have been in this program, I’ve been getting B’s. Again, this program has helped me a lot and I am not saying all this to be nice. However, I am saying this because that is how I feel in my heart.” I Love Life

I Love Life Because it's wild and free Full of grief, pain, and sympathy. I Love Life Because it's so amazing But sometimes get a little crazy. I Love Life And its limitations Scary and unbearable conditions. I Love Life Because it's filled with love Over the mountains to the skies above. I Love Life Because it's wonderful in every way And I tell God that every night I pray. I Love Life Because it teaches me things Like what sadness and joy may bring. I Love Life Because it brings me joy Hope it's the same for every girl and boy. I love Life And I want to stay alive And I will try my best to Survive |
